Who was Fritiof Nilsson Piraten? The Skåne author Fritiof Nilsson Piraten is often called the master of Swedish humorous tales and was a legend already during his lifetime in Lund. He started to write in the 1930’s with his publishing debut taking place in 1932 under the title ‘Bombi Bitt och jag’ [Bombi Bitt and I]. This book was a formidable success, whereupon Piraten immediately gave up his career as a lawyer and wrote another best seller under the title ‘Bock i örtagård’ . Piraten is read and admired mainly in his native Sweden, but his books have also been translated into English, German, French, Flemish, Dutch and Czech. Piraten’s epitaph, carved on his gravestone in the churchyard at Ravlunda, is justly famous:
