About Grand Hotel

Already, back in 1899, when the Grand first opened its doors it embodied the new thinking: a modern hotel should not only be somewhere for the guests to sleep and eat but also a place where they could live it up and be sociable. This is a basic philosophy we have kept and constantly seek to renew in all that we do.

The Grand is a hotel with real spirit. This spirit permeates the walls, the floors and ceilings, expressing more than a hundred years of  Lund’s history. It has been conserved through all the refurbishments and rebuilding. It comes alive in the smell of cooking and the aroma of the wines, it is heard in the clink of glass and the very murmur of …

The architect of the Grand was Alfred Hellerström, subsequently city architect of Helsingborg. His other work includes Helsingborg City Hall and the University Library in Lund. The exterior of the hotel is inspired by French chateau architecture from the Renaissance period. The interior is characterised by the stylistic ideal of the period i.e. Jugendstil. In particular the hotel lobby, the staircase and the ballroom [Stora Salen], are fine examples of the Jugenstil idiom.

A series of well-known hoteliers have run the Grand Hotel over the years. The last 50 years includes names such as Gunnar Ek, Sven Holger Fogelklou and Frank Svensson. During the years 1981-1990 the Grand was run by the brothers Leif and Urban Paulsson, from 1990 until 2005 by Leif Paulsson together with his wife Ann-Christin.

Since April 2005 has their daughter Maria Paulsson Rickle the position of CEO for the family owed company which also includes Hotel Lundia.
